clarity and stillness / alternative forms of theatre

theatre workshop with Falk Rößler
at TeaterAksen, Tromsø

Saturday, 8th of March, 10 – 18 o’ clock
Sunday, 9th of March, 13 – 19 o’ clock

The workshop will try to combine two topics – each one actually big enough to work a whole year upon it.
At first we’ll approach “clarity and stillness” in theatre processes. In a theoretical part I want to show in how far those terms can be very useful tools to create theatre works. I will examine how different relations (such as those between spoken language and movement, spoken language and silence, movement and stillness, something and nothing etc.) and the progression of what happens on stage are depending on a certain clarity that might be difficult to achieve sometimes. Examples from literature und film may help us to understand what I mean. After turning to clarity of speech, movement and concepts we’ll execute the theory in practical exercises.
On the second day we will start with something that might seem completely different. Again a theoretical part will lead us into the topic. Our issue then will be “alternative forms of theatre”. What kinds of theatrical presentations are possible beside the classical idea of “theatre” where several actors or actresses represent characters in a written theatre play? Why could such forms be interesting? What possibilities can open up with them? And is there maybe a connection to “clarity and stillness”? In order to make something out of what we dealt with, we will finally go on with some practical exercises. By doing so we’ll check out if we find some alternative ways to stage something...
With this workshop I hope to widen your (and my) theatrical horizon. Maybe we find something interesting and worth going on with. I don’t want to give a far too detailed insight to the topics but a more general approach, possibly enabling you to give the subject areas a chance in following theatre processes.
